US Coast Guard intercepts ship carrying fuel to Cuba
Original: US Coast Guard says it intercepted ship carrying fuel to Cuba
The US Coast Guard says it has intercepted a ship that was carrying fuel to Cuba. The announcement comes amid tightened US enforcement of sanctions and restrictions on shipments to the island, and is likely to draw reaction from Cuban officials and from those tracking US-Cuba relations. Details about the vessel's origin, crew and cargo have not yet been made public.
Why now: US enforcement actions against shipments to Cuba remain politically sensitive and draw wide attention to US-Cuba relations.
