Albatross Robot Falls, Self-Rights, and Sails Like a Leaf
Original: Meet Albatross: It Falls, Spins, Self-Rights, and Sails Away Like a Leaf
Engineers have unveiled a small robot called Albatross that mimics the way a leaf or gliding seed travels on the wind. It can drop from height, spin and self-right when it lands, then set off across the ground, suggesting a lightweight design for cheap, deployable robots that scatter over wide areas for sensing or delivery tasks.
Why now: The novel bio-inspired mobility design has caught attention in robotics circles.
