Trump Says Kim Jong Un a Friend, Defends North Korea's Nuclear Arsenal
Original: Trump Explains Why North Korea Can Have Nukes but Not Iran: Kim Jong Un 'a Friend of Mine' and 'I Like Him'
Donald Trump said North Korea can have nuclear weapons but Iran cannot, explaining that Kim Jong Un is 'a friend of mine' and adding 'I like him.' The remarks highlight his personal diplomacy with the North Korean leader and drew attention for the contrast with his hard line on Iran's nuclear program.
Why now: Trump's candid, personal justification for treating the two nuclear programs differently is striking and controversial.
