Christa Pike execution moves forward after decades on death row
Original: Christa Pike execution
Christa Pike, the only woman on death row in Tennessee, faces execution for the 1995 murder of fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer in Knoxville. Pike has spent nearly three decades appealing her sentence, and recent court developments in her case have drawn attention. Discussion centres on her status as one of the few women facing execution in the United States and the long delays in her case.
Why now: Courts recently scheduled or considered action on her long-delayed execution, drawing attention to Tennessee's death penalty case against its only female death row inmate.
