US States Already Losing Residents to Climate Change
Original: The States Where People Have Already Left Because Of Climate Change
A new report identifies US states where residents have already relocated because of climate change impacts such as flooding, hurricanes, wildfires and extreme heat. Coastal and Gulf states are typically highlighted, with people moving inland or to less exposed regions. The findings feed into wider debate about managed retreat and where Americans will live as climate risks grow.
Why now: Ongoing extreme weather events and rising insurance costs are drawing attention to climate-driven migration within the US.
