Tom Kim chases Asian Games gold and South Korea military exemption
Original: Tom Kim aims to clinch Asian Games title and avoid military service in South Korea https://www. nytimes.com/athletic/765
South Korean golfer Tom Kim is competing at the Asian Games in Japan, where a gold medal would earn him an exemption from the country's mandatory military service. Winning the title would spare the PGA Tour star from roughly two years of full military training, making his campaign one of the most closely watched storylines of the Games.
Why now: South Korea's mandatory military service rules mean a single gold medal could shape the career of one of golf's rising stars.
