Pentagon opens Office of Religious Affairs under Hegseth
Original: Pentagon launches Office of Religious Affairs, will report directly to Hegseth
The Pentagon has created a new Office of Religious Affairs that will report directly to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The office's establishment is drawing attention because it formally embeds religious affairs coordination at the top of the Defense Department hierarchy, raising questions about the separation of church and state in the military and how faith-based concerns will be weighed in defense policy.
Why now: The direct reporting line to Hegseth and church-state implications are prompting debate about religion's role in the Pentagon.
