Former Mexican Senator Alejandra León Gastélum Detained at US Border
Original: alejandra león gastélum
Former senator Alejandra León Gastélum was detained by US Customs and Border Protection at the Calexico port of entry in Baja California while trying to enter the United States. Reports link the questioning to alleged drug-related money laundering, but León Gastélum downplayed the incident, saying her visa was not cancelled and questioning why there was so much uproar. The case is drawing attention given her background with the PT and Morena.
Why now: The detention of a former Mexican senator by US border authorities over alleged narco-linked money laundering is a politically sensitive story in Mexico.
