UN expert urges rights-based climate path for Mozambique
Original: Mozambique needs integrated human rights vision for climate resilience and international cooperation to avoid fossil fuel lock-in, says UN expert
A UN human rights expert has called on Mozambique to adopt an integrated human rights vision for climate resilience, paired with stronger international cooperation. The warning centres on avoiding fossil fuel lock-in, arguing that heavy investment in gas and coal could leave the country economically stranded as the world shifts to clean energy. The expert framed climate action and rights protection as inseparable for Mozambique's development.
Why now: A UN expert's statement on Mozambique's fossil fuel strategy and climate resilience has just been published by the UN human rights office.
