Nigerian writer Lawson Akhigbe has published an essay arguing that Nigeria's government operates as a 'mirage government' - issuing pronouncements, budgets, reforms and speeches without actually knowing or using the information it holds. The piece criticises ministers and officials for launching programmes and holding press conferences while governance remains disconnected from real data and knowledge.
Why now: The essay's sharp critique of Nigeria's governance and data failures is resonating amid ongoing public frustration with government performance.
