NBA closes its only training academy in Africa

Original: NBA closes sole Africa training academy in blow to young players

The NBA has shut down its sole training academy in Africa, ending the league's flagship player-development programme on the continent. The decision removes a key pathway for young African players hoping to reach the NBA and has drawn criticism over the league's commitment to developing basketball talent in the region.

Why now: The closure of the NBA's only African academy represents a major setback for young players and the league's expansion efforts in Africa.
