Sudan Women's Groups Report Widespread Sexual Violence and Detention
Original: Sudan: Women's Groups Report Widespread Sexual Violence and Detention Across Sudan
Sudanese women's groups report widespread sexual violence and arbitrary detention taking place across Sudan. The findings point to abuses affecting women in multiple regions of the country, which has been gripped by conflict since April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. Rights organisations have repeatedly documented rape and detention as weapons of war, and the latest report is prompting renewed calls for accountability and international attention.
Why now: New reporting from Sudanese women's groups documenting systematic sexual violence and detention amid the ongoing conflict is drawing attention and concern.
