Media fans turn back to CDs, DVDs and vinyl to escape algorithms
Original: Why media fans want to escape algorithms with CDs, DVDs and vinyl
The Guardian reports on a growing shift among music and film fans back to physical media such as CDs, DVDs and vinyl records. The appeal is ownership and control: collectors say they are tired of streaming platforms deciding what they watch and listen to through recommendation algorithms, along with catalogues that disappear when licences expire. Physical formats are being framed as a way to keep media on their own terms.
Why now: Streaming fatigue and frustration with algorithm-driven recommendations are driving renewed interest in owning physical copies of music and films.
