Sudan Bans Fava Bean Imports
Original: Sudan Bans Import of Fava Beans
Sudan has announced a ban on the import of fava beans, a staple food central to the Sudanese diet and widely used in dishes like ful medames. Details on the timing, scope and official reasoning behind the ban have not been made clear, and reaction so far has focused on the potential impact on food supply and prices.
Why now: Fava beans are a dietary staple in Sudan, so an import ban raises immediate concerns about food prices and supply.
