Original: Activists plan legal action against police ban on entering security zone near Perth weapons expo https://www.theguardian
Activists in Western Australia are preparing legal action against a police-imposed security zone that bars protesters from areas around a major weapons expo near Perth. They argue the ban improperly restricts the right to protest and assembly. The dispute has drawn attention to the balance between security measures for arms industry events and civil liberties ahead of the gathering.
Why now: The police exclusion zone is seen as a significant restriction on protest rights, prompting civil liberties concerns.
