Original: Detecting Tillage Practices from Space: A New Approach to Monitoring Conservation Agriculture in the US Midwest
Researchers have outlined a new satellite-based approach for detecting tillage practices across the US Midwest, aimed at monitoring the adoption of conservation agriculture. The method, described in a farmdoc daily analysis, could give policymakers, researchers and farm groups a more reliable way to track whether farmers are reducing tillage and adopting soil-conserving practices across large areas.
Why now: Growing interest in conservation agriculture and soil health is driving attention to new tools for verifying no-till and reduced-tillage practices at scale.
