Dutch farmer groups push for tailored nitrogen rules

Original: boer

Discussion in the Netherlands centres on the country's nitrogen policy and how it affects farmers. Agricultural outlet Nieuwe Oogst reports that Van Essen is calling for custom rules for organic farmers, arguing that a one-size-fits-all approach does not fit the sector. The debate over nitrogen emissions and farming livelihoods continues to be a major political issue in the country.

Why now: Nitrogen policy remains one of the most contested political issues in the Netherlands, directly affecting farmers' futures.
