Saturn overtakes Jupiter with 20 newly discovered moons
Original: Europas
Astronomers have identified 20 previously unknown moons orbiting Saturn, pushing its confirmed total to 82 and overtaking Jupiter as the planet with the most known moons in the solar system. The small moons, each about five kilometres across, were spotted using the Subaru telescope in Hawaii, and the discovery team has invited the public to help name them.
Why now: The new discovery rewrites the tally of moons in the solar system and hands Saturn a record long held by Jupiter.
