Original: UN experts call on Pakistan to release human rights lawyers re-arrested on terrorism charges - JURIST - News
United Nations human rights experts have called on Pakistan to release human rights lawyers who were re-arrested on terrorism charges after earlier detentions. The experts warned that the arrests appear aimed at punishing lawyers for their legitimate work defending clients and advocating for rights. The case has drawn international attention to the treatment of legal professionals in Pakistan and to the use of terrorism laws against them.
Why now: UN intervention in the arrests has focused fresh scrutiny on Pakistan's treatment of human rights defenders.
