Lula and Bolsonaro skip final Brazil election debate
Original: Lula, Bolsonaro both snub final debate before Brazil election
Brazil's presidential candidates Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Jair Bolsonaro both declined to take part in the final televised debate before the country's election. The absence of both frontrunners leaves the last major face-off without its central figures, drawing criticism that voters are being denied a direct clash between the two contenders before casting their ballots.
Why now: Both leading candidates skipping the last debate days before a major national election denies voters a key comparison point, making it newsworthy.
