Open-source tree map inspires Berliners to water city trees
Original: ‘Like caring for a pet’: the open-source tree map inspiring Berliners to water their urban forest
An open-source map of Berlin's street trees is encouraging residents to water thirsty trees during dry spells, with volunteers treating the task 'like caring for a pet', according to the Guardian. The project shows which trees need water and lets people log their efforts, helping protect the city's urban forest as heat and drought stress Berlin's trees.
Why now: Hot, dry weather is putting urban trees under stress, and the map offers residents a simple way to help.
