The Portland Trail Blazers have fired a broadcaster after past racist and sexist social media posts resurfaced. The broadcaster, Bell, had been set to appear at the team's Fan Fest scrimmage and begin working during the upcoming season, but the organization parted ways with him before the season got underway. The decision has drawn attention to scrutiny of sports media figures' online histories.
Why now: The firing comes just before the NBA season's start, when the broadcaster was due to begin on-air work.
