Researchers report observing a new quantum state of matter in which electrons move extremely slowly, a striking departure from their usual rapid behaviour in materials. The finding, covered by ScienceDaily, is drawing attention from physics enthusiasts online, who are sharing the study and debating what such heavily slowed electrons could mean for understanding exotic materials and future technologies.
Why now: A newly reported quantum state with unusually slow electrons is surprising and may have implications for condensed-matter physics.
