Judge indefinitely blocks ICE arrests at New York immigration courthouses
Original: US judge in NY indefinitely blocks ICE from making arrests at immigration courthouses
A US judge in New York has issued an indefinite block preventing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from making arrests at immigration courthouses. The ruling targets the practice of detaining people attending scheduled immigration hearings, which critics said deterred migrants from pursuing their legal cases. The decision adds to ongoing legal fights over the scope of ICE enforcement operations under the Trump administration's expanded deportation agenda.
Why now: The court ruling directly limits ICE enforcement tactics and lands amid intense national debate over immigration policy.
