Original: Hochul Names Letitia James as Special Prosecutor in Cornell Case
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed state Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor to investigate allegations by a former Cornell University student that several men sexually assaulted her. The move puts the state's top law enforcement official in charge of the probe, a step officials say is meant to ensure an independent review. James's office will now lead the investigation into the claims.
Why now: The unusual appointment of the state attorney general as special prosecutor in a high-profile campus sexual assault case is drawing widespread attention.
