A new study of Europe's summer finds May heatwaves caused deaths and ruined harvests, with researchers warning the season offers a grim preview of what climate change holds for the continent. The findings point to extreme heat arriving earlier in the year, damaging agriculture and endangering lives, and they are prompting renewed concern about Europe's preparedness for future summers.
Why now: The study's warnings about deadly heat and crop losses come amid ongoing debate over climate change impacts in Europe.
