India marks Gandhi Jayanti with tributes and school events

Original: गांधी जयंती

India is observing the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute at Rajghat in Delhi. Schools across the country held events, including a handwriting competition at Digmani Global School in Gaya, a cleanliness rally by students in Kathua, and celebrations at South Point School in Sonipat. Commentary highlighted Gandhi's continuing relevance, including his early advocacy of universal voting rights and his message of truth and non-violence.

Why now: It is Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, so tributes and commemorations are widespread news across India.
