Qatar's prime minister says Israel, under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, rejected a Hamas proposal to release all civilian hostages shortly after the October 7 attacks, reportedly refusing a short ceasefire window requested by Hamas. The claim, attributed to a report citing the Qatari mediator, has drawn attention as it suggests an early opportunity to free hostages was declined, intensifying debate over Netanyahu's wartime decisions.
Why now: The Qatari PM's claim that Netanyahu turned down an early hostage-release deal fuels ongoing controversy over Israel's conduct in the Gaza war.
