US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the US military will create an Autonomous Warfare Command, dubbed AutoWarCom, to buy new drones and robotics in what he called the fastest peacetime shift in modern military history. He also pledged that every US base will have its own power supply independent of the grid, signalling a broad push to automate forces.

Why now: A major reorganisation of the US military toward autonomous weapons has direct implications for warfare, defence spending and global security.
