The Pidgin instant messaging project has released version 3.0 Alpha 3, and says it will switch to a monthly release schedule going forward. A 2.97.0 release was also announced. The long-gestating Pidgin 3.0 rewrite has taken years, so the move toward regular releases is being noted by open-source users who have followed the project's slow progress.
Why now: A new alpha of the long-delayed Pidgin 3.0 and a commitment to monthly releases is notable news for followers of the open-source messaging client.
