Original: The Metro: Detroit artist Mario Moore wants to give human rights leader Malcolm X the monument he never got

Detroit artist Mario Moore is pushing to create a monument honouring civil rights leader Malcolm X, who never received one. Moore discussed the project on WDET's The Metro, arguing the human rights icon deserves permanent recognition in Detroit. The proposal has drawn attention as cities re-examine which historical figures get commemorated in public space.

Why now: Ongoing public debate over monuments and recognition of civil rights figures has brought fresh attention to proposals honouring Malcolm X.
