JICC pauses fraud reports after Times Car data leak
Original: jicc
Times Car, a major Japanese car-sharing service, has leaked personal information on roughly 6.6 million customers, including images of driver's licences. Credit bureau JICC has partly suspended its identity-theft reporting service as a result. Japanese media warn the leaked licence images could be used for impersonation to open bank accounts or take out loans, urging affected customers to act quickly.
Why now: The scale of the leak and the risk that driver's licence images will be exploited for fraud have made it a major story in Japan.
