Politicians move to rein in chaos in college sports
Original: College sports is ‘living insanity.’ Politicians, of all people, are trying to stop the madness.
College sports is being described as 'living insanity' amid ongoing upheaval over player compensation, conference realignment and the transfer portal, and US politicians are now stepping in with efforts to impose order on the chaos. The development is drawing attention because lawmakers, rather than the NCAA, are attempting to regulate a system many see as out of control.
Why now: Lawmakers intervening in college athletics marks a striking turn in the debate over the sport's unstable financial and regulatory landscape.
