BAJI Turns 20, Framing Immigration as a Black Issue
Original: BAJI at 20: Why Immigration is a Black Issue
The Black Alliance for Just Immigration is marking its 20th anniversary with renewed calls to treat immigration as a Black issue. Writing in the Los Angeles Sentinel, the group argues that Black migrants face distinct forms of discrimination within immigration systems, and that broader immigration debates too often overlook their experiences. The milestone is prompting reflection on the organisation's work and the ongoing push to center race in immigration advocacy.
Why now: The organisation's 20th anniversary has prompted renewed attention to its argument linking racial justice and immigration policy.
