Pete Hegseth creates new Office of Religious Affairs at Pentagon
Original: Wow. So strange that the US has never before had an Office of Religious Affairs. Like, almost by design or something. ht
The US Defense Department under Secretary Pete Hegseth has established an Office of Religious Affairs, a first for the country. Commenters are remarking on the fact that no such office existed before, suggesting the separation of church and state made its absence deliberate. A Mother Jones explainer on the new office is circulating widely, with critics voicing alarm about religion's expanding role in government.
Why now: The creation of a religion-focused office inside the Defense Department is seen as a significant breach of the traditional separation of church and state.
