Seattle library teen e-book program tops 1 million banned book checkouts
Original: Seattle library’s program challenging banned books tops 1 million teen e-book checkouts
The Seattle Public Library's program offering free teen access to books that have been banned or challenged elsewhere has passed 1 million e-book checkouts. The initiative, launched to keep young readers able to read titles removed from school libraries in other states, has drawn national attention amid a wider surge in US book bans and challenges.
Why now: Growing debate over school and library book bans across the United States has put attention on programs expanding access to challenged titles.
