Documents provided to the Texas Observer about the death of Adrian Martinez raise serious questions about how the soldier felt abandoned and, at times, attacked by the US Army after he came forward to report his own assault. The material suggests his treatment by the military after speaking out is central to understanding the circumstances of his death, and the story is prompting debate about how the armed forces handle soldiers who report sexual assault.
Why now: New reporting links a soldier's death to alleged mistreatment by the Army after he reported an assault, touching on ongoing concerns about military handling of such cases
