Trump won't rule out invoking Insurrection Act
Original: Trump won't rule out Insurrection Act
President Donald Trump declined to rule out invoking the Insurrection Act, the centuries-old law allowing a president to deploy the military domestically. The remarks have drawn criticism from opponents who view it as an escalation in the use of military force within the United States, while supporters argue the president is keeping options open to address unrest or enforce immigration measures.
Why now: Trump's refusal to rule out deploying the military domestically raises concerns about the use of extraordinary emergency powers.
