Developers and privacy advocates are pushing back against Google's Android Developer Verification Program, a plan requiring all app developers to verify their identity with Google even for apps distributed outside the Play Store. Critics argue it effectively turns Android into a gated platform, undermining sideloading and open distribution, and some are voicing their opposition in blunt terms.

Why now: Google's plan to require developer identity verification is seen as a threat to Android's openness and sideloading freedom.
