Kremlin says Russia has no plans to use nuclear weapons
Original: Kremlin spokesman says Russia has no plans to use nuclear weapons
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says Russia has no plans to use nuclear weapons, a renewed reassurance amid the ongoing war in Ukraine and heightened concerns over nuclear rhetoric from Moscow. The statement is being picked up widely by international outlets, with observers weighing whether it signals genuine de-escalation or routine messaging aimed at calming Western fears.
Why now: Russia's nuclear rhetoric has been a persistent source of global anxiety during the Ukraine war, so any official statement ruling out nuclear use draws attention.
