A Dutch leadership summit on open source is bringing together board members and directors rather than the usual hoodie-wearing open source advocates. The event involves the Interior Ministry (MinBZK), the Dutch provinces organisation IPO, the municipal association VNG, Common Ground and the Open Source programme. Commenters see the executive turnout as a good sign that open source is being taken seriously at the top levels of government.

Why now: Government leaders' visible embrace of open source marks a shift in how the movement is treated institutionally.
