Activists at Poland-Belarus Border Still Prosecuted for Migrant Aid
Original: Activists at the Poland-Belarus Border are Still Being Prosecuted for Providing Aid to Migrants
Humanitarian volunteers who helped migrants at the Poland-Belarus border continue to face prosecution, according to a report by Just Security. Activists say they are being punished for providing water, food and medical assistance to people stranded in the border zone, in what critics describe as the criminalisation of humanitarian aid amid Poland's hardline response to the migration crisis.
Why now: Ongoing prosecutions of aid workers keep attention on Poland's contested migration policies at the EU's eastern border.
