A documentary about Gaza has beaten the Avengers: Endgame encore to take the top spot at the Italian box office, according to a Guardian report being widely shared. Commenters are reading it as a sign of Hollywood's fading grip on global audiences, tying the film's success to a broader sense that American cultural and political influence is waning.

Why now: A Gaza documentary outselling a blockbuster Marvel film in Italy strikes people as a marker of shifting cultural and political tides.
