Critics Call Mike Flanagan's 'Carrie' Series Too Gentle

Original: ‘Carrie’ Review: Mike Flanagan’s Teen-Drama Take on a Horror Classic Is Too Gentle for Its Own Good

The first reviews are in for Mike Flanagan's television adaptation of Stephen King's 'Carrie', and the verdict is lukewarm. IndieWire argues the show treats the horror classic as a teen drama, and that this gentler approach saps the story of its power. The review suggests Flanagan's rendition lacks the terror that made the original resonate.

Why now: A new adaptation of a beloved horror classic by a well-known genre director is drawing critical attention ahead of or around its release.
