Florida’s proposed science standards sideline evolution and climate change
Florida education officials have proposed new science standards that critics say downplay both evolution and climate change. Observers warn the changes could leave students with a weaker understanding of two core areas of modern science, and the proposal is drawing scrutiny from educators and science advocates as it moves through the state’s review process.
Why now: Ongoing debates over how US states handle evolution and climate science in school curricula keep the topic contentious.
