94-year-old Jewish barrister arrested over Palestine Action support
Original: Jewish human rights barrister, 94, arrested for supporting Palestine Action
A 94-year-old Jewish human rights barrister has been arrested in connection with support for Palestine Action, the direct-action group proscribed in the UK. The case has drawn attention because of the woman's age, her Jewish identity and her lifelong human rights work, fuelling debate over the breadth of UK counter-terrorism laws and the policing of pro-Palestinian activism.
Why now: The unusual profile of the defendant and the UK's proscription of Palestine Action have made this a flashpoint in debates over protest rights and counter-terror laws.
