Original: Krishnamoorthi Hails Restoration of 988 LGBTQ+ Crisis Line Following His Efforts
US Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi announced the restoration of the LGBTQ+ youth option on the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, crediting his advocacy for the reversal. The specialized service, which had faced removal, will once again connect LGBTQ+ callers with counselors. Supporters are welcoming the reinstatement as a win for mental health access for LGBTQ+ young people.
Why now: The restoration follows recent public backlash and political pressure over the line's removal, making it a current flashpoint in US politics.
