NBA closes its only training academy in Africa
Original: NBA closes sole training academy in Africa in blow to young players
The NBA has shut down its sole training academy in Africa, ending a program that gave young players on the continent structured coaching, education and a pathway toward professional basketball. The closure removes one of the league's main development hubs in the region and is seen as a setback for aspiring players who relied on the academy for training and exposure to international scouts.
Why now: The league's withdrawal from its only African development program affects young players' prospects and raises questions about the NBA's commitment to the region.
