Tsikhanouskaya urges Europe to keep Belarus sanctions in place
Original: Q&A: Europe must hold firm on Belarusian sanctions, isolation, says opposition leader Tsikhanouskaya
Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya says Europe must maintain sanctions and isolation of Alexander Lukashenko's regime, warning against any softening of pressure. In an interview with The Parliament Magazine, she argues that easing sanctions would undermine the opposition and the Belarusian people's push for democratic change, and calls on EU leaders to stay united on policy toward Minsk.
Why now: EU debates over sanctions policy toward Belarus are active, and her call speaks directly to concerns about waning resolve
