New exhibition spotlights art created by US prisoners
Original: ‘A saving gesture’: the art exhibition spotlighting US prisoners’ creations
A new exhibition is showcasing artworks made by prisoners in the United States, described by organisers as a saving gesture. The show puts incarcerated artists' creations before a wider public, prompting discussion about creativity behind bars, the dignity of imprisoned people, and the role art can play in rehabilitation and expression within the American prison system.
Why now: The exhibition's opening has drawn attention for giving prison artists rare public visibility.
